Good Character is a Sign of Iman

Good character is the sign of Îmân and adornment of Islam. Muslims should rid themselves of evil habits and adorn themselves with good manners. Bad character misleads a person to sin, whereas good character leads to salvation and prosperity in Dunyâ and the Âkhirah.

A nation addicted to immorality is prone to live in poverty and dissipation. The security of property, life, honour, and chastity cannot be established in an environment where immorality prevails. Hypocrisy and corruption will replace solidarity and unity. Consider the case of a man harbouring some wrong thoughts and evil plans in his mind; if this person additionally has no fear of Allâh, you can expect him to commit any evil and immoral acts that you could imagine. If -Allâh forbid- such people increase in a nation, then that nation cannot experience a disaster worse than this.

People who follow the straight path drawn by our religion cannot act immorally because our religion prohibits every one of the misdeeds and offences that violate peace and prosperity. There are even certain penalties to be executed in this world and in the Hereafter about those who violate these religious prohibitions. Islam prohibits even the thought of immorality, let alone committing them. A genuine Mu’min (believer) hosting fear of Allâh in his heart cannot go against the principles and rules of Islam. The true devoted Muslims will not commit any immoral or blasphemous deeds fearing the punishment in the Âkhirah and will strive to perform righteous deeds hoping to attain divine rewards, unlike the fake Muslims acting in the guise of religion while misusing it for their own benefits.

There is no other solution to restore our ruined morality and moral values than holding firmly onto our religion. It is never acceptable to imitate non-Muslim nations. We should never forget that the most peaceful and prosperous times for the Muslims in history were the eras when they observed the rules and regulations of their religion meticulously.
